A-Levels at VISP

For the first time in 2016 students were able to study A-Levels on Praslin. This represented a major development in education on Praslin as up until then students had to travel to Mahe in order to further their education beyond IGCSE. The decision to offer A-Levels on Praslin offered students the option of remaining in a supportive home environment throughout their A-Level studies.

Students starting A-Level with us begin in June with the course lasting for 2 years with students sitting their AS-Levels after the first year and their final A-Level exams at the end of the second year. Students work towards the Cambridge International AS and A-Levels and via the link at the bottom of the page you can find detailed specifications for the courses offered. Success at A-Level is seen as the gold standard of secondary education and would allow students to study a wide range of university programmes, either at UniSey or overseas. A-Level is also seen as a great academic platform from which to move on to a range of careers.

At present we offer Art and Design, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, English Language, English Literature, French, History, Geography, Maths, Physics and Travel and Tourism at A-Level. We feel this selection offers a breadth and diversity of choices as well as offering practical and useful options for young people in the Seychelles. However, should you have an interest in studying anything else at A-Level we will endeavour to run additional courses, provided there is enough interest.

A-Level students have access to all of the facilities which are available to students in the junior or secondary phase of the school. This includes, 2 modern and well designed science labs, 1 ICT suite and a secondary library containing many fiction and non-fiction books as well as text books and revision guides. In addition to this, the school has created an area exclusively for the use of A-Level students. Located on the first floor, A-Level students have access to a common room (lounge area), a small ICT suite for research and independent study and 2 A-Level classrooms.

The school day
The school day will closely match the day for secondary but will run on a flexitime basis. School will begin at 8.05am and finish at 2.20pm and students are expected to be in school during this time. However, some classes may finish at 3.00pm. For students attending late classes there will be time given off at another stage in the week to account for this. Like all A-Level centres, students will not be in class at all times during the day. Most days will contain a mixture of taught classes and free periods in which students are to complete set reading, homework or additional research. We also expect A-Level students to participate in extra curricular activities such as sports clubs or drama productions and to do a duty each week. We also encourage enrichment and / or work experience and time will be allocated in the week for both of these.

Entry Requirements
Our A-Level programme is available to anybody who has achieved 5 A*-C grades at GCSE level in any subjects. We would also ask that you achieve at least a B grade in any subject you wish to take at A-Level. We encourage applications from students on Praslin and La Digue but will be welcoming to any students from Mahe or overseas wishing to come and study with us.
